Saudi Crown Prince forms Holy Sites development co in Makkah
Holy Sites Company for Development will develop and operate capacity-expansion projects at Saudi Arabia's Holy Sites
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince HRH Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the kingdom’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and chairman of the board of directors of Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, has approved the formation of Holy Sites Company for Development to increase the capacity of the Holy Sites in Saudi Arabia.
The closed joint stock company, solely owned by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, will be headquartered in Makkah.
The new firm will act as the main developer and operator for the development of projects aimed at raising the capacity of the Holy Sites to serve the growing numbers of visitors to the areas, including pilgrims and performers of Umrah.
Holy sites Company for Development was formed during a meeting held by the commission’s board at Al-Safa Palace.
During the meeting, the board of directors also approved the provisions of an amended regulation that will “address the situation of undeveloped areas in the Holy City of Makkah”, with plans to be created for their rehabilitation, improvement, social development, and increased security.
Separately, the board also reviewed a proposal each for the governance of project and operation management at Makkah Grand Mosque, transport and roads in the Holy City of Makkah and Holy Sites, and to establishment endowment funds for Makkah.
Executive director of Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, Eng Abdulrahman bin Farouk Addas, said the directives supported the “great attention being paid by the Government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to accelerate the achievement of the goals for which the Royal Commission was established under the leadership of HRH Crown Prince”.
According to a report by Saudi Arabia’s state news agency, SPA, Addas added that the commission would continue “to establish a sustainable future for the Holy City of Makkah and Holy Sites to provide best services to the guests of Allah, and enrich the quality of life in the Holy City of Makkah”.
