Aurecon's Ermis Marques 'excited' by Mideast design-build contract spike
EXCLUSIVE: Growing trend is promising despite challenges it poses for some developers, consultancy's Middle East boss tells CW
The Australia- and South Africa-based engineering, planning, design, and project management consultancy’s Middle East head told Construction Week ahead of his inclusion in the 2019 Construction Week Power 100 that Aurecon was "well-prepared" to respond to this trend.
However, Marques added that this shift had disrupted the traditional market, challenging GCC developers that were unfamiliar with such schemes.
He added: “We need to work with both, the developers and contractors to make sure that the contractual risk and rewards are fair to all and help deliver successful projects.”
Having spent more than 29 years at Aurecon, with 10 in the Middle East and three in his current role, Marques has seen Aurecon work on projects such as Aqua Jeddah Hotel in the region.
Between June 2019 and May 2020, Aurecon will work on regional projects such as Dubai Creek Tower, Dubai Conference and Exhibition at Expo 2020 Campus, and Sharjah House of Wisdom.
The 2019 Construction Week Power 100 list will be published in the 29 June, 2019 issue of the magazine, and Marques will mark his return to the ranking this year.
