Dubai's DP World-backed American company Virgin Hyperloop One showcased its ultra high-speed transport technology at Capitol Hill, Washington DC — including its XP-1 vehicle — to members of Congress and federal stakeholders, followed by US Secretary of State Elaine Chao forming the Non-Traditional and Emerging Transportation Technology (Nett) Council to support new and disruptive transportation projects such as hyperloop and driverless cars in America.

Virgin Hyperloop One has plans for hyperloop projects in India and key GCC markets such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Commenting on the Capitol Hill programme, Virgin Hyperloop One's chief executive officer, Jay Walder, said: “It is time to seize the opportunity that hyperloop technology presents to bring people and economies closer together through more efficient, affordable, and seamless travel.

"As hyperloop moves toward reality, it is becoming clear that it will not only transform how we travel but also create an entirely new industry with thousands of new jobs.”

Group chairman and CEO of DP World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, added: “The progress in the US accelerates our vision for a globally certified system, allowing us to bring this transformative technology all over the world, and specifically to the GCC, in just years, not decades.”
