2019 CW Power 100: Kez Taylor, CEO of Dubai's ALEC, retains #1 spot
EXCLUSIVE: UAE contracting giant's leader reappears in first place on 2019 Construction Week Power 100 ranking
As the chief executive officer of Dubai-based engineering and contracting heavyweight ALEC, Kez Taylor is optimistic that “efficiency in delivery and cash management” will stimulate growth for the firm in the next 12 months.
ALEC is shifting its entire infrastructure to the cloud, utilising platform as a service (PaaS) as part of its technology implementation plans for 2019.
The firm, which is the main contractor for Jumeirah Living at Marina Gate, Expo 2020 Dubai’s Mobility Pavilion and CoEx Exhibition Centre, as well as a fit-out package for the Waldorf Astoria DIFC, currently employs 2,242 full-time engineers and 2,114 labourers.
As part of its employee training programme, ALEC has developed Performance Management Compass, a tool that is used to conduct assessments of employees’ performance over a specific period of time, based on their roles and responsibilities.
The company’s 2018 revenues were $1bn (AED3.8bn), and Taylor expects this figure to rise by 30% to hit $1.3bn (AED4.8bn) in 2019.
The CEO tells Construction Week: “The single biggest challenge over the next 12 months is to close out old contracts and collect the outstanding dues.”
Between June 2018 and May 2019, ALEC has worked on projects including the Residences at Marina Gate 1 and 2; the residential tower No.9, Dubai Marina; and Bluewaters Wharf Retail, off the Jumeirah Beach Residence coastline.
