2019 CW Power 100: Gary Adams, Parsons MEA president, at #17
EXCLUSIVE: MEA chief oversees 978 full-time qualified engineers in the region, an increase last year's headcount of 924
Serving as president for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region at US giant Parsons for the past five years, Gary Adams oversaw $670m in revenues for the 12-month period ending 31 December 2018.
The multi-service consultancy employs 978 full-time qualified engineers in the MEA region – an increase on 2018’s corresponding headcount of 924.
Over the past year, Parsons was the design and construction supervisor for the Interchange 2.5 Project, located on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road between interchanges 2 and 3. The opening of the interchange provides a free-flowing connection for traffic from Al Wasl and Jumeirah Beach roads on the west side of Sheikh Zayed Road, to Al Khail Road on the east side of Sheikh Zayed Road.
“Parsons has its own knowledge management and internal education system, named Parsons U, which includes comprehensive training material that covers all our fields of service,” Adams says, outlining one of the consultancy’s training initiatives for 2019.
The company is also implementing digital engineering education courses to ensure its MEA business unit is abreast with industry’s latest technological developments.
Training initiatives at Parsons in 2018 included the automation of the field inspection process, which typically involves multiple project stakeholders.
“Historically, field inspection [...] has involved a significant amount of time for preparation, logistics, administration, and following up to remediate defective elements,” Adams says.
“Due to the nature of the process, extensive collaboration is required between the various parties to address construction-related defects captured from field inspections. Parsons MEA has presented two field inspection mobile systems that are used on our regional projects and have been found to be effective in automating the field inspection process.”
