2019 CW Power 100: Gaj's Brian Johnson ranked #52
Managing partner of UK-based design and architectural firm returns to 2019 Construction Week Power 100
The managing partner of UK-based architectural and design firm, Godwin Austen Johnson (Gaj) is Brian Johnson.
Gaj opened its Dubai headquarters more than 25 years ago, in 1991. Having spent 44 years in the UAE, Johnson told Construction Week last year that he expected Expo 2020 Dubai to have a significant impact on business activities in the country.
Gaj’s main areas of specialisation are in the fields of hotels and hospitality, residential and commercial, education, and sports and leisure design.
Despite the company’s established presence in the industry, the group employs a relatively small team of just over 140 staff members across its Dubai headquarters and Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and UK offices.
In May 2019, the design firm revealed design plans for an International Schools Group campus that Rashed Abdul Rahman Al Rashed and Sons Group is developing in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.
Gaj has previously worked on Sharjah English School, Gems Westminster School, Sunmarke School, and Cranleigh Abu Dhabi.
According to tender listings platform ProTenders, Gaj is working as the design architect and lead consultant for the Warner Bros-themed hotel and serviced apartments at Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi on Yas Island.
The group also lists the phased redevelopment of the existing Crowne Plaza Hotel, located on the north-eastern tip of Bahrain’s main island, as another major project that it has worked on.
