2019 CW Power 100: Muhammad Al Salmy of Hoehler + alSalmy is #54
Managing director, partner, and lead architect at the Omani consultancy moves up 13 places this year
For the past 10 years, Muhammad Sultan Al Salmy has worked as managing director, partner, and lead architect at Oman-based specialist consultancy Hoehler + alSalmy, overseeing a team that includes 20 full-time qualified engineers.
Al Salmy says implementation of ISO standards was a key focus for the company last year. The group was successfully awarded ISO 9001 certification for quality management, ISO 14001 certification for environmental management and BS OHSAS 18001 for health and safety management.
This was followed by training for all staff members, to implement these standards throughout their day-to-day tasks.
“There is a major focus on the travel and tourism sector in Oman at the moment, which has allowed us to participate in the hospitality sector a lot more, with the upcoming hotels in the region,” Al Salmy says.
Touching on the group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities over the coming year, Al Salmy says the firm plans to work with the Environment Society of Oman to create an environmental awareness application in an effort to help with sustainability levels in the country.
He adds: “The manpower restrictions in the country are currently creating the biggest challenge in getting new projects in Oman.
“The current restrictions in the country – like the architects and construction ban currently being implemented – are preventing us from finding a way forward in what we do.
“We are more than capable of taking on bigger projects, but the bigger projects require experienced manpower.”
Al Salmy continues: “We make sure to advise all our clients on the conducted feasibility studies of the proposed projects, in order to get the ultimate success of every project we participate in.”
In 2018, Hoehler + alSalmy was involved with projects such as the design, supervision, and interior design at Al Muzn Corp Hotel in Oman’s Al Hail.
