2019 CW Power 100: Jesús Sancho of Acciona Middle East ranked #74
Managing director of Acciona Middle East climbs 21 spots in 2019 Construction Week Power 100 ranking
After joining Acciona Middle East eight years ago, Jesús Sancho Carrascosa was appointed managing director of the firm in 2014.
The Spanish contracting company is currently working on a number of prominent construction schemes in the Middle East, including the Shuqaiq 3 independent water producer seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant being developed for Saudi Arabia’s Water and Electricity Company.
Acciona Middle East is also engaged as main contractor for Dubai Municipality’s Shindagha Wave Museums 2A, 2D, and 3G, in addition to Expo 2020 Dubai’s Sustainability Pavilion, for which it is delivering design and construction services.
In addition, Acciona is one of several contractors that is involved with building the Dubai Metro Red Line’s extension, which will be known as Route 2020.
In November 2018, Carrascosa told Construction Week that Acciona’s scope of work for Route 2020, which extends 15km and comprises seven stations, would be complete in the second quarter of 2020.
Acciona’s involvement with rail sector developments also includes the UAE’s 1,200km federal network, Etihad Rail.
Speaking to Construction Week, Carrascosa explains that Saudi Arabia is Acciona’s most important market at the moment, followed by the UAE, which he says has witnessed a rapid growth in the number of construction projects currently under way as Dubai prepares to host Expo 2020.
Supported by a strong international team headquartered in Spain, Acciona is among the contractors that are driving the adoption of construction technology in the Middle East.
This January, the company told Construction Week that in 2016, it was the first company to 3D print a concrete bridge.
In 2018, Acciona teamed up with software specialist Autodesk, facilitating the manufacture of large-scale, complex shapes out of concrete, through the use of Autodesk’s design software.
In September 2018, Acciona was certified by Aenor in accordance with UNE-ISO 370001 standards for its anti-bribery management system.
