Kuwait Municipality to provide land for worker homes on project sites
Municipality is implementing plans to boost worker welfare and reduce instances of bachelors living in private residential areas
Kuwait Municipality announced that it would provide land to construct temporary labour accommodation at the construction site of government projects.
According to a report by Kuwait Times, director of Kuwait Municipality, Ahmad Al-Manfouhi, said the land allocation to build temporary accommodation would be similar to its initiative, wherein the municipality allotted land to accommodate 25,000 labourers at the site of Clean Fuel Project.
The news comes after Kuwait’s Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Mariam Al-Aqeel, called on prioritising labour welfare, calling on plans to build temporary prefabricated dormitories for expatriate workers at every project site.
Additionally, Al-Manfouhi noted that to curb the trend of bachelor accommodation in private residential areas, the municipality had allowed several factories to build special housing spaces for their workers on 10% of the facility’s area.
Last week, Kuwait Municipality also started the a campaign to install 124 road signboards in all governorates with the aim of reducing the number of bachelors living in private residential areas, the report added.
