Saudi women's economic participation rate in Q2 2019 reached 23.2% from 20.5% in Q1, General Authority for Statistics finds
The Saudi unemployment rate reduced to 12.3% in Q2 2019 from 12.5% in Q1 2019, according to Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics (Gastat), which also found that overall unemployment in Saudi Arabia – including citizens and residents – declined from 6% in Q1 2019 to 5.6% in Q2 2019, driven by projects and initiatives being implemented as part of the kingdom’s Vision 2030 economic diversification mandate.
Saudi women’s economic participation in Q2 2019 reached 23.2%, up from 20.5% in the previous quarter, according to Gastat’s labour force survey estimates and market data from authorities such as Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Labour and Social Development, Ministry of Civil Service, General Organisation for Social Insurance, Human Resources Development Fund, and National Information Centre.
The economic participation rate of Saudis grew to 45% in Q2 2019 from 42.3% in Q1 2019, despite the overall number of Saudi Arabians in employment – including men and women - reaching 3,090,248 in Q2 2019, compared to 3,112,029 in Q1 2019, Gastat said in an Arabic-language statement on 12 September 2019.
