HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved an $81.7m (AED300m) fund to train 18,000 citizens, with the UAE Cabinet also approving a decision to create 20,000 jobs for Emiratis in banking, aviation, real estate, telecommunications, and insurance sectors during a session chaired by the Dubai Ruler.

The news comes just days after HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, approved a plan for Emiratisation in Dubai to provide “a decent life to every citizen” which was a “top priority” for the government.

Making the announcements in a series of Arabic-language tweets on his Twitter account, Sheikh Mohammed said that local governments of the UAE, which have been supporting the country’s Emiratisation drive, were the “engine of the economy”.

He added that financial and legal support would be provided to the UAE’s private sector “to achieve a balance in labour market”, adding that legal amendments would be made to equalise citizens being employed in the private and public sector with regards to calculation of pensions.

Commenting on Sheikh Mohammed’s announcements, Sheikh Hamdan said in an Arabic-language tweet: “We continue to implement the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to reach the first place in the world in attracting investment by providing more incentives, guarantees and regulatory and legislative frameworks to consolidate the large balance of Dubai trust in the investor community.”
