Facilities management (FM) company Serco Middle East announced a milestone in its Dubai Metro contract with the number of UAE nationals working on the project increasing to 210, making up 13% of the metro team in 40 roles across various departments and functions.

The UK-headquartered company said in a statement that this milestone, achieved in August 2019, had been in the works for the past five years.

Serco also confirmed that women comprise 42% of the company’s Emirati workforce, with 25% of them having completed more than five years with Dubai Metro.

The company’s career development opportunities and recruitment drives are in line with UAE Vision 2021 and its Emiratisation policy, Serco said.

Commenting on the milestone, chief executive of Serco Middle East, Phil Malem, said: “[Our Emiratisation push] entails not only a thorough hiring process, but also adequate training, promotion opportunities, and retaining Emirati personnel with Dubai Metro.”
