Empower awards $307.7m district cooling infra contracts in 2019
Dubai firm awarded contract to build its $76.2m headquarters in Al Jaddaf, that is expected to complete in Q1 2021
Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), which is a joint venture between Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and TECOM Group, has awarded district cooing infrastructure development contracts worth $307.7m (AED1.13bn) in 2019.
The company said these contracts were awarded to several companies for services including, engineering consultancy; plant and other constructions, design and operation of cooling plants; expansion of district cooling pipe network; in addition to the development of new networks to serve the latest projects in Dubai; establishment of new energy transfer stations, as well as procurement of pipes and fittings.
In a statement the company said that it expects a surge in number of customers and contracts in 2020, which will also witness the construction completion of its new district cooling plants and expansion of the district cooling pipe network.
Empower has awarded a contract to construct its new $76.2m (AED280m) headquarters in Dubai’s Al Jaddaf, with the project expected to complete in Q1 2021.
Additionally, the firm has also awarded a contract for the construction of $53.6m (AED197m) district cooling plant for Dubai Production City with a total capacity of 47,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT).
Furthermore, it has also completed the designs for its Business Bay 4, 5, and6 plants. The firm has also inked contract with Trane Commercial to supply eco-friendly district cooling equipment with a capacity of 110,000 RT, which will be used for its projects in Tecom C, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences, Dubai Production City, and Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
The year also saw Empower award several contracts valued at more than $50.6m (AED186m) across its different plants in Dubai such as, Dubai Production City, and Sheikh Zayed Road to serve the Dubai Arena, Al Wasl Tower, Yotel Hotel, The Address Hotel, the One JBR Tower in Jumeirah Beach Residence, Barsha Heights, and Dubai Studio City.
Speaking about the contract awards, chief executive officer of Empower, Ahmad Bin Shafar, said: “Empower has witnessed an excessive growth and success as a result of the increased demand for district cooling services; in line with the company’s ambitious plans and strategies and its commitment towards the national strategies aimed at shifting to a green economy.”
"In 2020, we will award new contracts for the construction, design and operation of new plants, expansion of the pipe network, and innovation of advanced technologies for district cooling sector," Bin Shafar added.
