UAE's Utico records one million LTI-free working hours in 2019
CEO Richard Menezes says safety milestone is a testimony to robust standards on employee health, safety, and environment
UAE-based private utility firm Utico has hit a safety milestone by recording one million Lost Time Injury-free (LTI) man-hours, following a surge in output from the company’s water and power plants to keep-up with the increasing demand.
In a statement, Utico said that it has monitored day-to-day activities at its premises across multiple locations to make sure that its safety policy has been carried out effectively. According to the firm, it is the second time that the company has recorded one million LTI-free man-hours in the past two years.
Speaking about the safety milestone, chief executive officer of Utico, Richard Menezes said: “The achievement is a testimony to the company’s robust standards on employee health, safety and environment which are integral to the company’s core values.
“Proper and excellent planning, training and oversight of the implementation of safety norms across the operations to mitigate existing and foreseeable risks is another crucial factor leading to this milestone.”
Utico directly employs 500 people that are deployed across its operations spanning water supply, desalination, wastewater treatment solutions, power generation and transmission, in addition to engineering, fabrication, and renewable energy.
The firm also hires around 1,000 people through other contractors, subcontractors during the course of its projects.
Utico has over 500km of transmission network supplying water to various parts of Ras Al Khaimah. The utility provider owns and operates a 58km inter-emirates pipeline connecting Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, and Sharjah. Its network has over 99.6% availability under stringent supply conditions.
The company’s power network includes approximately 33KV power transmission line, and over 250km-long 11KV power network, with over 99.8% availability.
