Emrill launches placement programme for Emirati students

UAE facilities management company Emrill has launched Khibra, a work placement programme for Emirati students.

Five Emirati students attended Emrill’s five-day programme aimed at familiarising them with the UAE’s facilities management sector.

As part of the programme, the students accompanied employees on site visits to develop an understanding of mechanical and electrical activities.

Commenting on the importance of the programme, chief executive officer of Emrill, Stuart Harrison, said: “Khibra means ‘deep knowledge’ or ‘to get experience’, and Emrill’s programme has been designed to develop the skills and knowledge required for the UAE’s growth sectors through applied learning.”

During the course of the programme, students at Emrill focused on two applied stream curriculum pathways, including applied electrical engineering maintenance and applied mechanical engineering maintenance.

In addition, the students visited three Emrill sites, where they learnt to rectify issues and implement preventative maintenance work.

Speaking about the initiative, employer engagement specialist at the Ministry of Education, Claire Colligan, said: “The Applied Stream Work Placement Programme benefitted not only students but also employers. Through the comprehensive programme, students became self-confident and will be more employable once they graduate. The programme seeks to close the skills gap of the UAE economy, empower students and provide a skilled local workforce through Emiratisation.”

The work placement programme was held in December 2019.
