Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has discontinued paper-based Salik forms at the time of purchasing Salik tags, and has instead called on people to register and activate Salik tags either through the official Salik portal or the Smart Salik mobile application.
The RTA aims not only to digitise services and boost the emirate’s smart transformation, but also to offer quality and smooth services that save people time and effort.
Once a Salik tag is purchased through authorised dealers, or the Salik website or app, the user needs to enter simple details such as the number of Salik tag number, traffic file, and mobile phone, among others. The user will then be informed about the successful completion of the registration process.
The digital registration of Salik Tag is part of RTA’s e-service offering that includes buying Salik tags online; recharging Salik accounts; adding a vehicle to the Salik account; updating Salik details; applying for the exemption from Salik toll; objection to Salik violations; requesting monthly Salik statement; and removing a vehicle from Salik account among others.
The initiative is in line with the Dubai government’s strategic drive to boost the use of e-services and supports the Dubai Paperless strategy launched by the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.
By 2021, the Dubai government intends to go completely paper-free, eliminating more than 1 billion pieces of paper used for government transactions every year.
