As a preventive measure against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Dubai’s Department of Economic Development (Dubai DED) has issued a circular to business owners of commercial establishments.

According to the circular, Dubai DED “provides business owners with freedom to choose between continuing work as usual or temporarily closing commercial establishments for a period of 14 days starting from 22 March 2020, unless there is a prior agreement with the landlord regarding working hours”.

Following Dubai DED’s announcement, the UAE announced that all commercial centres, and shopping malls along with fish, meat, and vegetables markets will be closed for a renewable period of two weeks.

With the decision not being applicable to pharmacies, and food retail outlets, including cooperative societies, grocery stores, and supermarkets, along with fish, meat and vegetables markets dealing with wholesalers.

Meanwhile, the UAE government has advised the public to stay at home unless it's absolutely necessary to get essential supplies, including food and medicine, or perform essential jobs, the state-held Emirates News Agency, revealed.

The joint statement was issued by the Ministry of Interior and the National Emergency and Crisis and Disasters Management Authority.
