UAE-based fit-out contractor which specialises in green interiors, Summertown Interiors, has re-envisioned the post-COVID-19 work environment in the region with healthy, safe, and sustainable solutions.

The solutions include the re-configuration of floorplans to create social distancing with the proposition that workspaces may require lesser floorspace going forward. The solutions also cover the installation of touchless technology and hygiene equipment and communication, among others.

Under the vertical of floorplan re-configuration, Summertown Interiors suggests re-configuring entire floorplans; moving workstations or desks and furniture to ensure social distancing; and adding desk partitions or screens.

Installation of hygiene stations includes the provision of stations equipped with thermometers; protective items such as sanitisers and facemasks; and hygiene reminder signs; anti-microbial materials or surfaces; and touch-less sensor technology to reduce the number of surfaces touched by employees.

Placing priority on improved air quality, Summertown is offering businesses its services that cover assessment and measurement of air quality and ventilation effectiveness as well as maintainence checks when required.

In addition, the company aims to help businesses reduce floorspace by demolishing, rebuilding and carrying fit out works to new design specifications.

Speaking about the range of services, the company's managing director, Marcos Bish, said: "Our workplaces have been fundamentally impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and ‘rethinking’ the use of space has become a top priority for companies as they plan for their employees to return to work. Our employees are central to how we create value and we believe that in the current challenging climate, it is our duty to support businesses in the UAE by helping them get back on their feet with working conditions that are fit for purpose, healthier and more sustainable.”

Summertown Interior's assistive approach and response to the ongoing pandemic include support to companies seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and WELL Building Standard certifications.

Under the directives of The Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, 100% of government employees will resume work at offices from 14 June, Construction Week earlier reported.
