At the helm of Dubai-based conglomerate Majid Al Futtaim, Alain Bejjani returns to Construction Week’s annual ranking of 100 most influential construction industry leaders in 2020.
In the past 12 months, Majid Al Futtaim has marked several milestones across the Middle East. The group has recorded $9.6bn (AED35.2bn) of revenue in 2019, which grew by 1% year-on-year compared to the previous year.
November 2019 saw the company pledge to phase out single-use plastic by 2025. The company also listed a 10-year benchmark corporate ‘green’ sukuk worth $600m (AED2.2bn) on Nasdaq Dubai, making it the world’s first financial instrument of its kind to focus on sustainability-focused investments.
Last year, the group also inked a deal with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to develop a plot of land near the Mall of the Emirates and its linked Dubai Metro station as part of RTA’s transit oriented development programme (TOD).
Majid Al Futtaim also completed construction work on City Centre Almaza in Egypt’s capital city Cairo.
