Imad Gholmieh, president and CEO of Nesma & Partners passes away
CW has learned from the company that complications due to COVID-19 led to the industry veteran's passing away
Saudi Arabia-based Nesma & Partners, an engineering and construction company, which is a part of the Nesma Group, has announced that its founder, president and chief executive officer, Imad Gholmieh, passed away on 15 June, 2020.
In an email statement sent to Construction Week, the company stated that Gholmieh had tested COVID-19 positive, and complications led to his passing away.
In a statement published on Nesma & Partners website, chairman of the board of directors, Abdulaziz Ali Alturki stated that Gholmieh’s “passing is a true and an irreparable loss for the Nesma & Partners company”.
An influential business leader in the region’s construction sector, Gholmieh returned to Construction Week’s 2020 Power 100 ranking at No. 34, which was published on the 1 June, 2020.
Earlier this year, in a video statement released by Nesma & Partners on 17 April, 2020, Gholmieh had highlighted the precautionary measures adopted by the company to stop the spread of COVID-19 at its sites, workplace, and camps.
At that time, Gholmieh stated: “We have established a COVID-19 taskforce comprising multiple leaders in our organisation from multiple departments to ensure that we are managing these crisis at all times.”
In 2019, Nesma & Partners was awarded a $1.6bn (SAR6.2bn) construction contract for Phase 1 of the kingdom’s $3.5bn (SAR13bn) The Avenue–Riyadh project from Shomoul Holding Company, which is part of the Kuwait Bourse-listed real estate firm Mabanee.
The scope of work for Phase 1 of The Avenues–Riyadh project comprises the mall, parking area, gardens, and internals roads.
The company, which has been operating across various sectors, including oil and gas, petrochemicals, water, and power, was formed in 1981, achieving its 40th year anniversary next year in 2021.
