Damac has awarded two main contracts to build 1,157 homes at its AKOYA by Damac project.

The company is building 677 luxury villas and 480 apartments at the 28m ft2 site, which is at Dubailand close to Umm Suqeim Road. The company did not name the contractor to whom the deals have been awarded.

A contract to build a 132kV substation has also been placed with ETA Star, while architect Gil Hanse has been appointed to design the Trump International Golf Club Dubai. Earthworks have been carried out by Al Naboodah Contracting Co.

Hanse will also be responsible for designing the course that will be used at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

“Work is well underway on the site,” said Damac Properties’ managing director, Ziad El Chaar.

“More than 100 pieces of heavy machinery are shaping the land and you can see the golf course already starting to take shape and green shoots of grass coming through.

“It is very exciting to see AKOYA by DAMAC rise from the sand.”

Damac has also completed construction of the sales centre on the site.

Projects in the development include the first Trump Estates in the Middle East, Damac Villas by Paramount and villas designed by Italian fashion house Fendi.
