The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP) is preparing designs of 65 new public parks to be built across Qatar.

Speaking on a talk-in radio programme ‘Watani Al Habib’, Mohammed Ali Al Khori, director of Public Parks at the MMUP said,“We are preparing designs for 65 new public parks in different municipalities.”

The parks are in different stages of development and design.

He added that in coordination with the authorities, the department is surveying areas to allocate plots of land on which to build the parks.

“Our aim is to cover all municipalities and provide amenities to all the people living in the country,” he added.

On the radio show he said that the construction work of Al Dohail Public Park began in 2010.

The project was one of 38 parks, 37 of which were completed on time except barring one.

The construction company that had failed to finish the project had been referred to court, and the case had taken a while to settle, he explained.

However, after awarding a new company to take on the contract, the work will be completed within six months, he assured.

Al Khori explained that designs of three parks had been completed and within the coming three to four months tenders will be invited to build the parks.

Once the plot of land is allocated by the relevant authority, the department will contact service providers, prior to preparing designs and inviting tenders, The Peninsula reports.

The ministry also outlined on its official Facebook account that it is assisting people to get quality plants at reasonable prices.

The Ministry has planted around 2.5 million plants at the central plant nursery and Al Matar centre, of which about 1.5 million saplings were distributed to municipalities and government institutions to green areas.

Another 2,000 saplings had been sold to the public for home gardens.

People can apply for plants and seasonal and permanent flowers using online system or smartphones.
