A new Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) subsea cable system has been launched by telecom company Ooredoo, linking the major internet hubs of the three continents to Qatar.
The 25,000km submarine cable is the third longest and one of the highest capacity systems under deployment on a global scale, according to The Peninsula.
“The AAE-1 cable will provide people in Qatar with access to new, high-speed global routing, and faster, more reliable bandwidth,” said Waleed Al Sayed, CEO of Ooredoo Qatar.
The cable, which will be completed by year-end, enables high capacity towards major Internet hubs and low latency access to Europe and Asia, while also supporting the planned launch of 5G services in the Gulf state.
“As part of our vision to continually enhance Ooredoo Supernet, we are investing in major Internet infrastructure that will enable Qatar to become one of the best-connected countries,” Al Sayed added.
The cable will also land in Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Oman, the UAE, Yemen, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy and France.
