Al Khoud Armed Forces Hospital is on the 2019 shortlist for Commercial Project of the Year honours.

The Commercial Project of the Year category has historically been among the Construction Week Oman Awards’ most coveted honours, and 2019 is no exception, as is evidenced by the quality of this year’s shortlist.

For its sewage system, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works at Muscat’s Al Araimi Boulevard Mall, Muscat-based Voltas appears as one of this year’s frontrunners for Commercial Project of the Year.

The main purpose of the mall’s sewage treatment plant, completed by Lalbuksh Voltas Engineering Services and Voltas Oman, is to minimise the wastage of water, and recycle and reuse the treated water for landscaping and irrigation works.

A regular name at the Construction Week Awards, Douglas OHI is also in the running for its work on Vox Cinemas at City Centre Sohar, a project that the contractor says it completed “within a very short period by meeting all clients’ expectations”.

For its work as the design and construction supervision consultant for the extension of Al Khoud Armed Forces Hospital, Khatib & Alami is also in the running for top honours. The expanded hospital will host the biggest accident and emergency, and intensive care unit departments in Oman.

Salam Square & Gallery, a 4.5ha mixed used development made up of a ground-floor retail gallery, four floors of commercial space, and a public square, is also in the running for commercial project honours.

The building, nominated by Oman's Hoehler + alSalmy, merges the contemporary European office space style with traditional Omani influences through the use of modern shaded colonnade and sun-light protection.

Rounding up this year’s esteemed shortlist is S&T Interiors and Contracting's scheme, The Waterfront in Shatti Al Qurum, Muscat. The 4.6ha project is one of the largest sustainable developments in the densely populated area of Muscat, and has been pre-certified as a Leed Gold structure.

The winners of CW Oman Awards 2019 will be announced at a gala ceremony to be held at Kempinski Hotel Muscat on 25 March, 2019.
