CW Oman Awards 2019: Sustainability shortlist revealed
Meet the shortlisted companies and projects that made Omani construction a greener industry in 2018
The shortlist has been revealed for the Sustainability of the Year category at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2019.
Lalbuksh Voltas Engineering (Lalvol) is in the running for its work as the contractor of Al Araimi Boulevard's sewage treatment plant (STP). According to the group’s nomination, the STP plant production unit has been built for the Muscat project in a way that will allow the production of treated water with minimal wastage.
A waste water treatment plant at Al Araimi Boulevard will also process the waste generated out of STP, with the treated water to be used to irrigate the area around the facility. It will also be converted into organic fertiliers that will be available for local fertilisation.
For its efforts on making steel greener, Sohar Steel joins Al Araimi Boulevard in this year’s sustainability category.
“Green claims are very easy to make, but considerably harder to substantiate,” Sohar Steel said in its nomination. With this in mind, the group has completed its environmental product declaration and is now listed on Green Book Live. According to Sohar Steel, this means its products are now certified to meet global sustainability standards.
