CW Oman Awards 2019: Douglas OHI wins health and safety prize
Contractor wins second trophy at CW Oman Awards 2019 in category also comprising Voltas Oman and L&T Oman
For its ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye Plant Safety Awareness Training Programme’, Douglas OHI walked away with the Health and Safety Initiative of the Year trophy at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2019.
This year’s judges applauded the scheme’s practical and hands-on lessons to help reduce the risk of falls from height – one of the most common causes of fatalities on construction sites.
Douglas OHI's win marked its second award of the night, and its health and safety programme was praised for being a behavioural initiative with a common, embedded message across the team.
Commenting on the project, a member of the jury, described the initiative as “a smart, yet simplistic [initiative] that can make a significant impact towards improving man machine interface on a construction site".
They aded: “The development of three-site zone draws clear attention to what is required by each individual on site.’
A finalist in last year’s category, Voltas Oman was also on the evening’s HSE award shortlist for its Team Safety Campaign, which saw it record more than three million man-hours worked without a lost-time injury on the Kempinski Hotel Muscat hotel.
The five-star hotel was the location of this year’s gala awards ceremony, held on 25 March, 2019.
A Tripod Rescue Kit designed by Larsen & Toubro (Oman) rounded up the shortlist of potential Health and Safety Initiative of the Year winners.
The Construction Week Oman Awards 2019 were supported by platinum sponsor S&T Interiors and Contracting; gold sponsor HFW; heavy commercial vehicles partners Mohsin Haider Darwish and Ford Trucks; supporting sponsor CIOB; show partner The Big Show Oman; and intelligence sponsor ProTenders.
