CW Awards 2019: Jean Pierre Hamel wins Project Manager of the Year
Judges said Black & White Engineering’s Hamel won the award for being “fair and impartial” when resolving problems
Privately-owned consultancy firm Black & White Engineering’s Jean Pierre Hamel has lifted the Project Manager of the Year honour at the Construction Week Awards 2019, which was held at Dubai’s JW Marriott Marquis on 4 December.
Our independent panel of judges commended Hamel stating that he was a very experienced professional and a cost-conscious individual, who is a pleasure to deal with. Other comments included that Hamel was “fair and impartial” when resolving problems.
Hamel has more than 24 years of experience – including 4 years in the Middle East – in the project management of complex, multi-disciplinary projects. He has also helped the business cut costs, as well as boost efficiencies for project clients and employers.
Commenting on lifting the prestigious award, associate director of Black & White Engineering, Jean Pierre Hamel, said: “This is a big joy for myself and for my company, too. This is a big achievement for all of us, particularly coming from Construction Week.”
Jean Pierre Hamel added: “The team that I’m working with in the company is our biggest strength, and our biggest wealth. It is because of all the people that I’ve worked with on a day-to-day basis, through the big challenges and difficulties, that we have won this award. I am just a representative of my team.”
The Highly Commended award for the Project Manager of the Year was presented to Ramboll’s associate director for environment and health, Nagwa El Karawy.
El Karwy has been involved in projects such as establishing the Strategic Transformation Office for the General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Projection (GAMEP) in Saudi Arabia.
Judges described the running between El Karaway and Hamel as “neck-and-neck”.
The shortlist for the Project Manager of the Year accolade, in addition to Black & White’s Hamel and Ramboll’s El Karway, included ALEC's contract manager, Anthony Kirkham; 3Sixty Consult’s project director, Declan Devery; Compass Project Consulting project manager, Mohammed Salameh; Atkins Global’s Bijoy Varma, and Hoehler + alSalmy’s Ahmed Al Amri.
