CW Awards 2019: ALEC’s Sean McQue wins Construction Executive of the Year

McQue has been with ALEC for 12 years and was commended for contributing significantly to the company’s financial success

ALEC’s Sean McQue, has been named Construction Executive of the Year at the Construction Week Awards 2019, which was held at Dubai’s JW Marriott Marquis on 4 December.

The judges described ALEC’s director of construction as the “future of the business” and believed he was a “driven character that has been involved in complex projects.

McQue has more than 26 years’ experience in the construction and has spent 12 years with ALEC.

He has delivered several difficult and complex projects during his time in the UAE, including the Mobility Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, Deira Waterfront Development Phase 1, and Dubai International Airport – Concourse D&A.

Other achievements include helping the business achieve a $2.7bn (AED 10bn) current order backlog for 2019, as well as $1.07bn (AED 3.7bn) turnover and $952.8m (AED 3.5bn) revenue for 2018.

Commenting on the award, McQue said: "I was kind of surprised to win the award. There was some good contenders for the category, but I am very pleased to pick up the award.

He added: "This award means a lot to me. ALEC has given me an awful a lot of opportunities since I’ve joined them. I’ve always worked for ALEC in the Middle East and they are an amazing organisation for growing talent from within and giving people opportunities to contribute."

Highly Commended for this year’s Construction Executive of the Year went to Douglas OHI’s general manager, Aaron Hennessey, for the establishment of the Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Department Business Plan for 2019.

The shortlist for the Construction Executive of the Year accolade, in addition to McQue and Hennessey, included managing principal at DeSimone Consulting Engineers, Ahmed Osman; director at RMJM, Despina Tampakopoulou; managing director at AESG, Saeed Al Abbar; and Priyesh Vora, strategic growth director at Atkins MEA.

Jaldeep Virani from Voltas Oman LLC was the final executive to be named on the category shortlist.
