A round of the thirteen winning names at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2020 that was held virtually this year

On 2 September, 2020, the best in the Sultanate’s construction sector were honoured as the winners at the ninth iteration of the Construction Week Oman Awards, which was for the first time organised virtually.

It took an independent judging panel of three industry experts to pick the winning entry from a list of strong nominees. The judges deliberated specifications of each category – looking at project deliveries, health and safety aspects, and cost efficiencies, as well as others across Oman.

From Contractor of the Year to Consultancy of the Year, Commercial Project of the Year to Residential Project of the year as well as Engineer of the Year to Construction Executive of the Year to Rising Star of the Year, in total there were thirteen categories.

Here is the list of awardees that walked away with the winning trophies at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2020.

Contractor of the Year: Construction giant Douglas OHI — a frequent in the winners list at the Construction Week Oman Awards — swept away with winning trophy for the Contractor of the Year.

Consultancy of the Year: KEO International Consultants was named the Consultancy of the Year honour at our first ever virtual Construction Week Oman Awards.

Construction Executive of the Year: Turner and Townsend (T&T)’s director & head of contract services for the Middle East, Ryan Shalabi took home the Construction Executive of the Year honour.

Rising Star of the Year: Dana Al Haremi, urban planner at Khatib & Alami scooped the winning trophy for the Rising Star of the Year.

Project Manager of the Year: Muscat Landscaping’s principal landscape architect, Bart Wubben, won the Project Manager of the Year award.

Engineer of the Year: KEO International Consultant’s Pahalage Weerasiri De Silva Abeygunawardana was crowned as the Engineer of the Year at the Construction Week Oman Awards, organised virtually this year.

Sustainability Initiative of the Year: Douglas OHI bagged the award for the Sustainability Initiative of the Year for its Sustainability Awareness, Education & Impact initiative.

Health & Safety Initiative of the Year: Contracting giant Al Tasnim Group took home the winning trophy for the Health & Safety Initiative of the Year at the ninth iteration of the Construction Week Oman Awards for its Hazard Hunt Room initiative.

CSR Initiative of the Year: Construction giant Douglas OHI also lifted the winning trophy for the CSR Initiative of the Year second time in a row for its Autism Awareness campaign.

Infrastructure Project of the Year: The Omani division of India’s Bombay Stock Exchange-listed construction heavyweight, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), bagged the award for the Infrastructure Project of the Year. The company was recognized for its work on the dualisation of the 263km Al Sharqiyah Expressway.

Residential Project of the Year: KEO International Consultants picked the award for the Residential Project of the Year for its work on the Muscat Bay project.

Hospitality Project of the Year: Omani Government's tourism development arm Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN) won the accolade for Hospitality Project of the Year. The company was honoured for its work on the W Muscat hotel.

Commercial Project of the Year: Ibrahim Jaidah Architects & Engineers take home the winning trophy for Commercial Project of the Year.

The ninth edition of the Construction Week Oman Awards was sponsored by Silver Sponsors – Tenable Fire Engineering Consultancy and KEO International Consultants; The Chartered Institute of Building, the Supporting Sponsor; ProTenders was the Intelligence Partner; and The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors was the Training Partner.
