Speaking at the Construction Week: Leaders in Construction Summit UAE 2019, held at the Le Meridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre in Dubai on 17 September, a panel moderated by HFW partner Beau McLaren and featuring Addleshaw Goddard partner, Andrew Greaves; HKA partner, Conrad Bromley; Al Tamimi & Co partner, Ahmad Ghoneim; and Pinsent Masons partner, Nesreen Osman, agreed that changes in arbitration and litigation laws could make it easier for international companies to do business in the UAE.

Addressing the audience during the panel, titled Payments, Insolvency, and Dispute Resolution, Greaves said that “positive developments” such as insolvency laws and official circulars on timely payments would drive a change in the market.

Osman said that the industry may head towards a law similar to the UK's Construction Act, but added that specific timelines were, so far, hard to provide.

The Leaders in Construction Summit UAE 2019 is supported by Gold Sponsors, HFW and Pinsent Masons; Silver Sponsors, Addleshaw Goddard, Exactal, and Al Tamimi & Co; Claims Sponsor, HKA; Legal Sponsor, Reed Smith; Lanyard Sponsor, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP); Intelligence Partner, ProTenders; Training Partner, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; and Exhibitors, Deltek, Construction Computer Software (CCS), Beaver Gulf Group, Facilio, and CCC.
