Dubai-based private real estate developer Azizi Developments is investing in youth, education, and sustainability through its support of Manipal Academy of Higher Education Dubai Campus’ Team Tawazun project that will participate in the Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME) competition, which is organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), bringing together universities from more than 35 countries meet to design, build, and operate close to 235 grid-connected, solar-powered house.

Team Tawazun’s single-family home will incorporate 3D printing, artificial intelligence, and Internet of Things-based technology, and will primarily run on solar power with the aim of being a net-zero, and energy-positive building that complies with- and surpasses- local and international green building codes.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education and Azizi Developments told Construction Week that the Tawazun project will also be supported by ALEC Energy, CKR Consulting Engineers, Lite Tech Industries, Spencer Interiors and Contracting, Daikin, TermoDeck, Red Tower Group, Eco Structures International, Alpin Limited, and Taka Solutions.

Commenting on the support offered to the Tawazun project, head of construction operations at Azizi Developments, Alexandros Pounentis, said: “Our support of Team Tawazun, which is participating in the ‘Olympics of Sustainable Buildings,’ underlines our focus on encouraging young talents to innovate and create solutions that add value to our industry and future.”

Pounentis added: “As an international competition aimed at promoting research and innovation in the green building sector through effective partnership-building between academia and the industry, SDME promotes a culture of localised innovation in line with the vision of our leadership to promote sustainable development.”
