Breaking into the Gulf engineering market may prove to be a difficult job for non-British firms, according to Ulrich Schulze, a technical manager at Graitec.
The French-owned firm has been providing users across the world with high performance CAD and engineering software for structural building construction for the last 25 years. However, Schulze said that he is “not sure” about breaking into the Gulf region due to it being “under UK control and the UK has strong software in that sector as well.
“It’s a pretty tough job, but on the other hand, it’s coming up again. It was down in the last year, but I see signs that it is pushing up again,” he added.
The firm’s software allows steel detailers to create an accurate 3D model of their projects, which Schulze said will help increase ‘design to drawing productivity’, and that it would reduce fabrication and construction errors.
He added that the firm is likely to expand its presence in 2011, having already tied up a deal with a representative in Singapore.
