There is no doubting the maverick zeal of Gundeep Singh, CEO and 2008 founder of The Change Initiative, in his conversion from indifferent international businessman to sustainable pioneer.
A green beacon in Dubai, his new HQ is arguably the most sustainable building in the world, with the highest ever LEED Platinum rating, and the near-perfect score of 107 out of the maximum 110 points.
Its construction is as much of an unexpected accolade for the UAE as it is a death blow to the credibility of the more worn out and shortsighted excuses for wasteful construction in the region.
Within a few years of returning to India he had become the youngest general manager for Southern Pacific Corporation in South East Asia, and in 1999, he joined Al Ghurair Group as managing director of Khalid Al Ghurair Enterprises.
Since his radical departure to launch The Change Initiative, the business cocooned itself in the global supply chain niche for sustainable solutions emerging boasting specialist knowledge on all the latest technologies. Singh surmises: “From the beginning we wanted to build a standard and surmount that standard, because if I say ‘be sustainable’ then we have to at least practice something better than that.”
