Williams said: “It’s a great time to be in the Middle East.” in an interview with CW earlier this year. He had every reason to be optimistic given that at the time EC Harris had won the project management contract – in a joint bid with Mace - for the 1,000m Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, set to be the world’s tallest building in 2018.
It is clear that projects like the Kingdom Tower are exactly the reason Williams believes the region will attract top construction professionals from around the world in the next five years.
EC Harris has a staff of 3,000 and became part of the giant ARCADIS group in 2011. His company had already earned a great reputation in the Middle East, and of course the UK, which gave ARCASDIS strengths in those markets.
EC Harris has been involved in the $1.5bn Atlantis on Palm Jumeirah as well as working on Sowwah Island – now known as Al Maryah Island - and Saadiyat Islands in Abu Dhabi and now the next biggest building in the world.
EC Harris has been in the Middle East for more than 30 years and Williams himself has been with the company “man and boy”, as he describes it.
