Maqbool bin Hameed Al Saleh
Maqbool bin Hameed Al Saleh heads a company that believes in the power of partnerships. From modest beginnings three decades ago, his organisation has developed strong relationships with local partners and overseas principals to ensure growth and access to skills.
These partnerships, which include well-known construction names such as Drake & Scull, RMD Kwikform and Fugro, have brought international brands and services to Oman and coincide with huge growth in the sultanate.
The company he has built is a powerful corporate house in the sultanate, with business interests ranging from contracting, telecommunications, hospitality, real estate, communications and IT solutions to marine, petroleum and energy services in the core industrial sector.
Al Saleh, who played hockey to national standard then turned his attention to squash in later years, puts his continued energy and enthusiasm for business down to exercise. “I cannot go to the office without 45 minutes exercise, otherwise I feel lethargic.”
His company was established in 1975, went public in 1997 and now employs around 10,000 people. He was Undersecretary at the Ministry of Palace Affairs for 12 years until 1983, when he moved to the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Al Saleh was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award at Construction Week Awards Oman in March this year.
