Kuwait to scrap 2,400 teacher visas: report states

According to reports from local media, Kuwait is set to cancel the work permits of approximately 2,400 teachers and replace them with Kuwaiti nationals.

The Al Qabas newspaper has published a report stating that the country’s education authorities have requested the Interior Ministry to cancel the residency permits of around 1,900 teachers.

Additionally, the newspaper, citing informed sources, mentions that an additional 500 teachers have resigned. These teachers have been given a three-month period to settle any outstanding payments and resolve their status in the country.

Sources quoted by Al Qabas state that the Human Resource Department at the Education Ministry is actively working to expedite the necessary procedures for non-Kuwaiti teachers whose services will be discontinued by the end of the current school year, in order to exempt them from any fines or fees.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Ministry of Education intends to hire 600 teachers, both male and female, from Palestine and Jordan for the upcoming academic year 2023-2024. This move is part of the authority’s efforts to address the shortage of educational staff in Kuwaiti schools and meet the increasing demand for teachers.

Reports indicate that Osama Al-Sultan, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, has sent a letter to the administrative sector outlining the requirements for non-national teachers in the next academic year.
