NEOM’s The Line documentary: Architects reveal thoughts in 45-minute show

In a fresh 45-minute documentary titled “The Line: Saudi Arabia’s City of the Future in NEOM,” notable architects such as Thom Mayne, Peter Cook, and Roger Soto shed light on the conceptualisation behind a groundbreaking megacity known as “The Line.”

This linear smart city, currently in its planning stages, spans 170 kilometres and is being developed in secrecy within NEOM, Tabuk Province, Saudi Arabia.

The documentary, aired on the Discovery Channel, not only features the architects but also includes insights from the NEOM team and Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman. This marks a momentous occasion, as most of these architects have never before publicly discussed the project in such detail.

Designed to accommodate approximately nine million people, The Line covers an area of 34 square kilometres and comes with an impressive price tag of $500 billion.

The city’s unique feature lies in its carefully planned layout, allowing all essential amenities to be within walking distance for the residents. Moreover, a high-speed rail system ensures a quick 20-minute commute for added convenience.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasised the ambition and determination behind the project, defying scepticism about its feasibility. He stated that despite the challenges and doubts, they remain steadfast in proving naysayers wrong.
