Saudi Arabia has unveiled significant updates on its preparations for Expo 2030 Riyadh, showcasing a detailed master plan and strategic milestones during the 175th General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris. The updates underline the Kingdom’s commitment to delivering a world-class event that will redefine global collaboration and innovation.
The Expo 2030 Riyadh master plan spans 6 million square metres, with a gated event area of 2 million square metres. The site will feature five themed zones, over 200 pavilions, and adaptable layouts that prioritise sustainability and functionality.
“The master plan embodies the vision of Expo 2030, integrating thematic pavilions, entertainment spaces, and sustainable infrastructure,” said Mazin Al Furaih, a senior official spearheading the project. He added that the site’s strategic location near key Riyadh landmarks enhances its distinct identity while harmonising with the city’s urban landscape.
Governance and legacy planning are central to Expo 2030 Riyadh’s preparations. Ghida Al Shibl, a senior official involved in the event’s development, emphasised the robust governance framework led by the Expo High Committee, chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
“The Expo High Committee ensures Expo 2030 remains a national priority, while the Public Investment Fund-backed Riyadh Expo Development Company oversees operations, logistics, and legacy planning,” said Al Shibl.
The event’s theme, “Foresight for Tomorrow,” is built on three core subthemes: Transformational Technology, Sustainable Solutions, and Prosperous People. According to Al Shibl, these elements aim to inspire meaningful global action and collaboration.
Saudi Arabia is also leveraging Expo 2025 in Osaka as a strategic platform to gather insights and engage with international participants. Workshops and events planned during the Osaka Expo will empower contributors to help shape Expo 2030’s vision.
Abdulaziz Alghannam, Senior General Director of Expo 2030 Riyadh, highlighted the substantial progress made since the Kingdom’s successful bid to host the global event. He pointed to the City Readiness Program, which evaluates Riyadh’s infrastructure and ensures the necessary investments are in place to meet the event’s demands.
“We have made remarkable progress on the journey to 2030,” said Alghannam. “Our readiness program incorporates lessons from previous expos, ensuring Riyadh is prepared to deliver an exceptional experience.”
Alghannam also provided updates on the registration dossier, which is on track for submission by early 2025.
The Saudi delegation also offered a preview of the upcoming Expo 2030 logo, which will be officially unveiled as part of a dedicated rollout plan. Developed after a comprehensive review of past expo branding, the logo aims to encapsulate the event’s vision and identity.
The establishment of the Riyadh Expo Development Company marks a pivotal step in the project’s execution. Tasked with strategic planning, master plan development, and international engagement, the company is supported by a board of directors and a dedicated CEO.
As Saudi Arabia accelerates its preparations for Expo 2030, the Kingdom aims to set a new benchmark for innovation, sustainability, and global cooperation.
“Expo 2030 will redefine global collaboration and leave an enduring legacy for future generations,” said Al Furaih, expressing confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to deliver a transformative event.
