UAE's Ewec appoints ex-Fewa CFO Othman Al Ali as new CEO

Al Ali says the investment case for sustainable utilities has 'never been stronger' and will look to drive sector partnerships

Othman Al Ali has been appointed chief executive officer of Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec), which coordinates the planning, purchase, and provision of power and water across the UAE.

Ali was previously chief financial officer at the country's Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa), and has two decades of work experience in both the public and private sectors, with positions in the utilities and banking industries.

Commenting on the appointment, Ewec chairman, Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi, said: “Othman’s extensive previous industry experience leading transformations will be fundamental in pushing the business forward and supporting our broader strategic development.

"We look forward to working together to achieve higher efficiency and enhanced performance in the utilities sector.”

Remarking on his new role and mandate, Ali said: “The investment case for sustainable power generation and water production has never been stronger.

"I look forward to strengthening our national and international partnerships to reliably deliver power and water, while ensuring the efficient utilisation of the country’s natural resources.”
