Dubai Municipality set up a temporary health and safety tent for construction workers in Jebel Ali.

A temporary safety tent was set up in Jebel Ali between 28 February and 2 March, 2019 by Dubai Municipality (DM) to provide construction labourers with free medical examinations and talks on safety importance.

The temporary structure was implemented at a labour accommodation site in Jebel Ali Industrial Area under DM's 'Zero Accident Construction Challenge', which urges building companies across the emirate to eliminate instances of site incidents.

During the three-day initiative by DM, workers were also provided additional information and invited to attend workshops on construction site safety.

Director of DM’s building control department, Eng Abdullah Al Shezawi, said the municipality was committed to improving education and safety standards for construction workers in Dubai.

In a DM statement, Al Shezawi said the temporary safety tent was one of the municipal body's efforts to protect “the lives of workers [at] construction sites through training, education, and awareness”.

DM's move comes as UAE construction projects post solid safety statistics. In February 2019, the project team on Deyaar Development’s Midtown, which includes Belhasa Engineering, U+A, and Ramboll, surpassed more than five million man-hours without a lost-time injury (LTI).

In the same month, the Korean-Emirati joint venture of Ssangyong and Trojan working on Ithra Dubai’s Deira Enrichment Project was recognised for delivering 10 million LTI-free man-hours at the megaproject’s construction site.

Project teams on Dubai South achieved 35.8 million man-hours without a serious accident or LTI between January and December 2018.
