Bahrain International Airport's new terminal will open in Q3 2019.

Five-thousand employees of Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) are being trained to more efficiently do their jobs when a new passenger terminal building opens at Bahrain International Airport (BAH) – one of Bahrain's largest construction projects – in Q3 2019.

Familiarisation courses have been rolled out for the 5,000-strong team of BAC, the airport developer and operator that is chaired by Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, HE Eng Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed.

Bahrain’s top aviation official said the Orat programme is currently at a stage where the new terminal’s systems will undergo “extensive practical evaluation”, with all of its systems, facilities, operations, and employees to be tested under simulated and live conditions.

Training related to the new passenger terminal building’s functions, systems, and procedures began this March, and will continue in the run up to its third-quarter launch.

Contractor training sessions are also under way to familiarise BAH airport staff with the new terminal’s information technology systems, and the equipment that it will use at security checkpoints, registration counters, and luggage areas.

These on-the-job training sessions are being implemented by the steering committee of Bahrain’s National Operations Readiness and Airport Transfer (Orat), which is working with Germany’s Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services for BAH.

Orat’s steering committee was formed by Royal Order (10) for 2017, issued by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander, and First Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain, according to the kingdom's state news agency, BNA.
