Fédération Internationale Des Ingénieurs-Conseils, also known as Fidic, has entered what is being described as its first contract training collaboration with King's College London's Centre of Construction Law following a memorandum of understanding, with law firm Fenwick Elliott to lead the educational programme.

The first summer school will open in Summer 2020 as a one-week intensive course led by Prof Phillip Capper and Fenwick Elliott partner Nicholas Gould.

King's College London and Fidic's agreement was signed on 23 May, 2019, with the course expected to focus on common and civil law legal frameworks within which Fidic contracts are used, examining how standard Fidic form processes operate in various legal systems.

In a statement, Fenwick Elliott said the 2020 course would be aimed at practitioners including engineers, lawyers, and other construction professionals with at least two years of work experience.

Commenting on the development, Fidic's chief executive officer, Prof Nelson Ogunshakin, said: “We’re very pleased to secure this partnership and anticipate that the training programme we hope to create will enhance the global Fidic body of knowledge, thereby helping the development of industry professionals.”

Prof David Mosey, director of King’s College London's Centre of Construction Law, said the collaboration reflected the objectives of the university "to improve knowledge and understanding, and to deliver impact in society”.
