Oman has started the annual midday break for outdoor workers during summer months starting from 1 June till the end of August, the Ministry of Manpower has announced.

An initiative aimed at safeguarding the health and safety of workers especially at construction sites, the three-month-long midday break will witness outdoor work for employees being suspended from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
Announcing the midday break, the ministry tweeted: “Workers must not work in construction sites and open areas of high temperature at noon time.”

The three-month midday break will see outdoor employees suspending work between 12.30pm and 3.30pm.

Under Article 16 of Ministerial Decree No. 286/2008, Oman bars outdoor workers from working in high temperatures during the summer months.

Working hours are usually split between two shifts, in accordance with the midday break hours.

According to the article, “the employer has to make sure that the conditions prevailing in the workplace are sufficiently safe for the workers' health particularly in terms of, lighting, ventilation, heat and cold, noise, and drinking water.
