Empower’s AI system to save 6,880MWh energy annually

System currently functional at firm's Business Bay plant-3 with plans to be set up at other district cooling plants

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) will develop a system embedded with artificial intelligence (AI) to operate Thermal Energy Storage (TES) tanks at its district cooling plants.

In a statement the company said that it had conducted a test at its Business Bay plant in Dubai, under which it was determined that the AI-powered system is estimated to save approximately 6,880MWh of electricity annually.

Commenting on the system, chief executive officer of Empower, Ahmad Bin Shafar said: “The development of TES tanks supports efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve the UAE's objectives in the field of energy efficiency and environmental conservation.

He added: “The AI based technology contributes to reducing pressure on the state power grid during peak hours, which in turn helps to save more energy annually.”

Courrently, the system is operational at Empower’s Business Bay plant-3, with the company plannin to implement the system at its other district cooling plants.

More than 1,090 buildings and 100,000 customers use Empower’s district cooling services.

The company operates more than 1.43 million refrigeration tons (RT), providing environmentally friendly district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments.
