Empower's electronic payments rise 15% YoY to cross 500,000 in 2019

The world’s largest district cooling services provider Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), which is a joint venture between Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and TECOM Investments, has revealed a 15% year-on-year increase in online transactions, with more than 500,000 e-transactions in 2019.

The firm has provided e-payment channels to more than 100,000 clients either through the company’s system, or its strategic partners such as banks and financial institutions.

The achievement reflects Empower's efforts to contribute to the Dubai Paperless Strategy, which aims to turn Dubai into a paperless government by December 2021.

In addition, registrations for district cooling services have reached a total of 17,833, the firm stated.

The company has also witnessed a 45% YoY increase in the number of visitors to its customer service centers, and a 13% YoY increase in e-mail communications.

The percentage of customers registering for e-services via the company's website and mobile phone service (mPay) have also increased by 30% in 2019, compared to the previous year.

The company's website allows clients to review and pay their bills electronically; obtain an electronic receipt; settle their final bills; pay all due bills and order a clearance certificate; while keeping clients updated on their applications status until they get their final bills and clearance certificates.

Commenting on the response to its online services, the chief executive officer of Empower, Ahmad Bin Shafar, said: “Smart services are key to saving customers’ time and efforts, while achieving the best standards of living, eliminating bureaucracy and paperwork, and the time it takes for waiting and attending.”

Empower currently operates over 1.43 million RT, providing district cooling services to more than 1,090 buildings and over 100,000 clients. The company also provides environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments in Dubai, such as Dubai Waterfront, Blue Waters, Jumeirah Group, and Jumeirah Beach Residence, among others.
