Bahrain’s Alba achieves ASI Performance Certification
Alba was certified against ASI’s performance standard for its “responsible production, sourcing, and stewardship of aluminium”
Bahrain’s Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has achieved the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Certification for its commitment to environmental, social, and governance performance.
Alba, which is the world’s largest aluminium smelter outside of China, is only the second Gulf-based aluminium smelter to have achieved the certification, which covers both the smelter site as well as its calciner plant.
Following an independent audit process, Alba was certified against ASI’s performance standard for its “responsible production, sourcing, and stewardship of aluminium,” according to the state-run Bahrain News Agency.
Commenting on the achievement, Alba’s acting chief executive officer, Ali Al Baqali, said: “Green Aluminium is the future. The ASI Certification is a key milestone in our never-ending sustainability journey and recognises our diligent commitment to produce aluminium responsibly and sustainably.”
In February 2019, Alba was certified as a Production and Transformation member of the ASI.
The ASI is a non-profit standards setting and certification organisation.
