DEWA reveals 14 platforms to locate EV charging stations in Dubai
DEWA's website, Smart App, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Foursquare, Factual, 2GIS, Careem are some of the platforms
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has revealed that electric vehicle (EV) users can locate charging stations in the emirate through 14 digital platforms, which also include DEWA’s website and Smart app.
According to the state-owned company, the move will support customers, who register in the EV Green Charger Initiative, to correctly locate all the DEWA charging stations across a variety of digital map platforms, Dubai Media Office reported.
These platforms include, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Foursquare, Factual, What3Words, 2GIS, in addition to ride-share platform, Careem, car navigation maps TomTom and Here Maps, as well as dedicated charging station platforms Plugshare, Electromaps, and Yellowmaps.
In Dubai, DEWA has installed more than 240 charging stations, and the company plans to increase the total number of charging stations to 300 by the end of 2020.
Commenting on the move, managing director and chief executive officer of DEWA, Saeed Al Tayer, explained that linking the EV Green Charger stations with the digital platforms will inspire customers to use sustainable mobility and contribute in protecting the environment.
Following a rise in the use of hybrid and electric vehicles in Dubai, after launching the Green Charger initiative in 2015, DEWA extended free electric vehicle charging until 31 December 2021 for private users. According to DEWA, the incentive is valid for its public charging stations and does not cover home charging stations.
