Abu Dhabi Airports wraps up airfield lighting system upgrade
CEO Bryan Thompson: Abu Dhabi International Airport's Southern Runway upgrade ensures "safe, secure, efficient operations"
Abu Dhabi Airports has completed upgradation of airfield lighting system of the Southern Runway of the Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) to a CAT-IIIB system technology that was integrated with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems.
AUH has joined a group of international airports to have implemented the advanced technology and is currently carrying out the installation of CAT-IIIB system on the Northern Runway.
Speaking about the technology upgrade, chief executive officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, Bryan Thompson said: “The upgrade of the Southern Runway is the result of our commitment to ensuring safe, secure and efficient operations at Abu Dhabi International Airport.”
“Our efforts on and off the tarmac are centred around our desire to transform the experience we offer our customers through enhancing our operations, growing our network, and expanding our leisure and entertainment offerings,” Thompson added.
The upgrade alongside other technical updates to the facility’s airfield lighting control monitoring system (ALCMS), helps AUH continue its operations in low visibility conditions.
The move also supports Abu Dhabi Airports’ commitment to sustainability, and the UAE civil aviation industry’s initiative to improve fuel efficiency by reducing the fuel consumption during ultra-long haul aircraft due to diversions.
