What differentiates SGB from its competitors in the market?

In today’s competitive market conditions, our clients are increasingly expecting productive and efficient solutions to allow for optimal offerings. Pricing has been the historic approach to address competitiveness, however, with an ever-increasing need for productivity and reliability, SGB stands out as the perfect partner to offer competitiveness through technology and capability.

One key differentiator at SGB specifically and BrandSafway at large, is our instilled Culture of Safety. With an uncompromising drive to create a safe and reliable working environment, and by adhering to the highest of international and local safety standards, we bring our Culture of Safety practices to life at all sites we operate at. This allows for higher productive hours, better general performance and lower time lost due to injury or accidents thus avoiding work stoppage.

In addition, the product diversity we have in our portfolio allows us a wider range of customised solutions. In 2020, we supplemented our portfolio with two new product lines to further support our customers with cost effective solutions:  our self-climber Trulift® and the suspended access solution QuikDeck®.

Trulift® is the only super automatic climbing system in this region that allows contractors using technology to lift the platform five metres in a single stroke. Meanwhile, QuikDeck® is the most advanced access solution that exceeds all other competitors’ offerings thanks to its advanced technology and versatile system that enables scaffold builders to erect working platforms with less resources and much safer procedures.

Lastly, our main differentiators are people and process. We pride ourselves with stellar skillsets and well proven processes across the board; be it on the commercial understanding of customer needs, or delivery and installation efficiency, or ability to engineer specific complex designs supplemented with a wealth of engineering database and latest design tools and software, we do that with an uncompromising commitment to integrity and safety.

In summary, we believe our Culture of Safety, our improved and upgraded product range, as well as our people and process come together to present a differentiated and competitive solution to our customers.

How is QuikDeck® different from traditional access solutions?

With QuikDeck®, we have created a virtual platform, where multiple contractors can perform concurrently at multiple levels, replacing conventional methods where all construction activities need to be halted at site until work is finished at the higher levels of the structure. This creates a safer working environment, while simultaneously cutting down the risk of incidents where equipment drops on a worker on lower levels. In addition, QuikDeck® allows for quick creation of a temporary yet reliable working platform beneath rigs, bridges, pipe-racks, and many other applications at a time when access is challenging.

Additionally, QuikDeck® allows considerably more productive worktime leading to major reductions in total project costs, as it allows the contractors to have multiple operators at the same time. At a time when efficiency and productivity are key differentiators, QuikDeck® is a perfect fit to address these requirements.

What are some of the projects SGB is working on in the region, particularly in the UAE and Saudi Arabia?

We are currently working with many customers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the rest of this region, who are focused on the commercial, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.

In the UAE, we are also partnering with multiple contractors on the Expo 2020 Dubai site. SGB products are currently used at the Mobility Pavilion and Conference and Exhibition Centre (CoEx), and in addition at multiple sites and buildings supporting the infrastructure around the Expo 2020 area and the Route 2020.

Concurrently in Abu Dhabi, we are engaged with the development of multiple projects at Al Raha, YAS, Al Reem, and Saadiyat. Our self-climbing system for example, Trulift®, that allows the core of the towers to be built at virtually double the speed of conventional systems is being used at Pixel Towers, a seven-tower multi-purpose development project.

Worth noting, in the UAE, we pride ourselves in having multiple long term, continuous presence contracts with reputed industrial and oil and gas clients.

Across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for the past 50 years, we have been successfully supporting our customers within the infrastructure and oil & gas sectors.

In the infrastructure sector, we have and are supporting all of the major megaprojects currently in construction in the kingdom. King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Riyadh Metro, and multiple mixed used developments at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) are recent success stories.

In the oil & gas sector, we are providing services to both upstream and down-stream projects, specifically refineries, chemical and petrochemical facilities. Our services include scaffolding access works for shutdown, maintenance, rehabilitation works, and greenfield projects. Our key differentiator here is our ability to also take on multi-discipline works including refractory, painting, insulation, as well as fire proofing.

In South East Asia, we are present in Singapore and Malaysia. In these countries, we have delivered several projects focusing on the infrastructure sector such as MRT and LRT in Malaysia and the development of T4 in Singapore.

What are your plans for 2020 and the future?

We are positive about 2020 and the future, this is on the back of the significant announcements of mega developments across the region driven by the visions of the region’s leaders. NEOM, The Red Sea Project, Al Ula, Amaala, Qiddiya, and Abu Dhabi stimulus package are attracting our team’s focus.

In addition, we continue to be proud of the work we are doing across the oil & gas, chemical and petrochemical sectors, especially with the new access solutions we are introducing across the Middle East, Africa, and South East Asia.

With that, we look forward to fully engage in major projects such as the UAE’s Jebel Ali Gas Development Project and Saudi Arabia’s Marjan and Berri oilfields and Al-Jafurah gas field projects.
