ALEC's AJI Rentals brings 'biggest' mini crane to UAE
EXCLUSIVE: The company's general manager speaks to Construction Week about the recently-launched mini crane
AJI Heavy Equipment Rental, which is one of ALEC Engineering and Contracting's related businesses, recently brought to UAE the 'biggest' mini crane by global mini crane manufacturer JEKKO.
The crane, JEKKO SPX1280 is the first of its kind to be launched in the region, and "will be followed by additional units," general manager, AJI Heavy Equipment Rental, Dean Jones, said to Construction Week.
The mini crane is regarded as the 'biggest' of its kind, owing to its lifting capacity. "Identifying it as the biggest in the mini crane world seems self-defeating, however, an increase of tasks requires greater ability. At 8,000kg, the crane has the highest capacity in the UAE to date," Jones added.
Despite its lifting capacity, the JEKKO SPX1280 features "all the attributes of a mini crane as it travels through any standard double door width opening at only 1.45m wide, 2.05m in height, and just over 5.8m in length," he explained.
"It has an advantage due to its removable counterweight, making it easier to move over delicate surfaces or where loadings are restricted".
The mini crane's compact size coupled with its small footprint attributes makes it the ideal fit for small or congested areas.
"The JEKKO SPX1280 offers the smallest footprint in its class, with the standard outrigger footprint at 4.6m x 4.6m, reducing to 3.6m x 3.6m if needed," Jones explained.
The "new-generation crane" is crucial to the industry, as past high capacity mini cranes in the market have all tended to have "larger footprints and be more limited in their applications," he stated.
Speaking about AJI Heavy Equipment Rental's use of mini cranes in the region, Jones, said: "Our mini cranes have been used across major construction projects in the UAE, with the SPX1280 heading to work on one of the signature pavilions."
AJI Heavy Equipment Rental is the only official dealer of JEKKO products in the UAE.
Adding that the company has noted an increase in demand for mini cranes from customers, he added: "Mini cranes - if used effectively - can and will improve the efficiency of teams on a construction site or project. Mini cranes can provide solutions to challenges that required much larger cranes in the past and are ideal for performing specific lifting tasks in areas that are difficult to access, and are the go-to option for all glazing and glass lifting and handling applications."
The ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and the panic surrounding it has impacted JEKKO, which is a Northen Italy-based company, Jones confirmed to Construction Week.
"However, the JEKKO-AJI partnership is a young and strong one, and we do not see this outbreak affecting our relationship. We at AJI Rentals and ALEC Engineering and Contracting wish only the best for everyone during this time. We remain committed to ensuring the well-being and safety of our employees and clients," he concluded.
